What Finish Is Best On A Potato And Onion Bin?

I found a nice potato and onion bin but there is no finish on it (i.e. hasn’t been varnished or stained). Can I use the bin to put potatoes and onions if there is no finish on the wood? If not, what type of finish is best for a potato and onion bin?

  1. Dan the brick man says:

use a urethane on the outside and let the inside go…if you want protection where the foods go, brush on some mineral oil and rub it in with a rag…

  2. I cant believe this website says:

No you don’t have to apply finish, but if you’d like to then use a salad bowl finish, its safe for direct food contact. Ask at the hardware store-they’ll know. don’t forget to vote me best answer
